The REAL reason I’m not doing hair anymore

A little different version of this just went out to my email list and I wanted to share it here, too.

Hey there, friend,

If you've been hanging around me lately, you probably know this already, but just in case you missed it—my days of cutting hair are winding down. Yep, it's true! But before you start mourning your next haircut, let me tell you why I’m trading in my shears for something even more transformative.

Let’s rewind to the summer of 2021. Just six weeks after my husband’s suicide, I was a shattered mess. Raw, broken, and honestly, I wasn't even sure if healing was a thing people really did or if it was just a word therapists used to make us feel better. So, when a friend invited me to a little weekend retreat, I was like, "Sure, why not? Maybe I’ll just hide in the corner and fake smile through it."

Boy, was I wrong about that.

This retreat was set in a picture-perfect spot in central Texas—lush green grass, a giant oak tree that looked like it held centuries of secrets, and dew on the grass every morning that felt like nature was crying with me. I was surrounded by women who, just like me, were trying to navigate their own personal hurricanes.

And let me tell you, we laughed until we almost peed our pants, cried until there were no tears left, and somehow, in between all that, I started to feel… different. The kind of different where you can almost feel the pieces of your heart being glued back together. Slowly, tenderly, piece by piece.

So why am I spilling all this to you? Because that weekend taught me something HUGE: healing isn’t a solo act. It’s not just the self-help books you skim through, the therapy sessions you dread going to, or the mindfulness apps you half-heartedly open (guilty!). The real magic—the kind that shifts your entire life—happens when you’re with other people who get it.

That weekend, I realized that healing is a team sport. When we come together, share our stories, and just hold space for each other, something incredible happens. We amplify each other's healing in ways you just can't do on your own.

I created Self Care Social because I want to give other women that same space I found—where you can come as you are, raw edges and all, and feel totally supported. At these gatherings, you’ll find a community where you can share your story without judgment, where you can cry, laugh, or even just sit in silence and still feel seen.

And that’s why I’m so stoked to invite you to our next Self Care Social: Goddess Gathering on Sunday, October 13th, in Midland, Texas.

So if you’re craving something more—more connection, more joy, more magic—then this is for you. Let’s save a spot for you at the Goddess Gathering, because, trust me, self-care isn’t selfish. It’s the most beautiful, badass act of self-love you can do.

Mark your calendar, friend. October 13th. It’s time to step into your power and embrace the incredible woman you are.

I can't wait to share more about how much my life has transformed since that first retreat, but there’s no way I could fit all the goodness into one blog post. So stay tuned—there’s more coming your way.

Got questions? Don’t be shy—shoot me a message! I’m here for you.

See you soon,

Mindy

P.S. Here's an affirmation I’ve been loving lately: "I am empowered to live authentically and unapologetically."

Hold onto that, friend. You’re worth it.
